| Music Video Contest! |
[Jul. 23rd, 2009|12:50 pm] |
The Bad Dudes are coming out with a new album next month called CHRONOTORIOUS! Basically it's a bunch of awesome video game music composers who get together to make game music in their own interesting fashion. They've made albums of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, SF's Sagat, and most recently for Super Dodgeball. This one is packed full of arrangements from (can you guess?) Chrono Trigger.
They're throwing a Music Video Contest for their song Dhsu vs. Mustin - B.A.M.F. (Radio Edit). Check out all the info here: http://www.baddudesmusic.com/music_video_contest.html
You could win a signed version of the cd, a super limited edition poster, a $50 gift card to GameStop, and they'd be plastering your work throughout the internets!
If you don't already know: The Bad Dudes are made up of some of the largest and funnest group of guys to compose vg music. Mustin is head of the OneUps, who've played at PAX, also produced the Child's Play Charity CD, one of MAGFest's champions of Name That Tune, and has played his part in The Grammar Club's songs with PBC Production's Captain S character Lunk, Shael Riley. Ailsean also has played with The Grammar Club, and is part of MAGFest's made Smash Brothers band. Along with Kunal as the Smash Brothers' drummer, who has also done music for tv commercials. Dale North's fame is everywhere as a writer/editor on Destructoid and Japanimator, co-founder of the OneUps, and composer/singer of his own many albums including X-Strike Studios' Silent Horror soundtrack. Danimal is best known from the bands ARMCANNON and Metroid Metal. These are just a few of the guys making this fantastic music as a Bad Dude. Check'em out! ^_^;; |

| Help a Gamer in Need! |
[Jun. 24th, 2009|02:39 pm] |
Our friend JoeCam needs to become healthier, or else we fear the worst (says his doctor). He's unpacking his packrattiness. He's been a collector of games for years and some are super rare. He wants what they're worth so he's not using Ebay, and he needs money so he's not using Goozex.
The money will help to fund a gym membership, better/healthier food, and a much needed emotional-healthy vacation.
He's got a lot of games, so please take a look at the list and see if you're interested in anything. It's quite a list of PS1/2/3, Xbox & 360, Wii, Game Cube, PSP, DS (and even a limited edition gold Zelda DS) games:
http://www.oneupstudios.com/boards/showthread.php?t=5768
Then you can email him, joecam at joecamnet.com with the titles and your 'suggested retail price.' Be sure to tell him that Steph sent you from Live Journal (so he has an idea and you're not just some random person from the internets).
Thanks everyone! ^_^;; Hope you can find something you'd like! |

| Posting more... |
[Jun. 1st, 2009|11:54 am] |
Hey there everybody!
So, I'm going down this road again. I've been reading more and trying to become more active with stuffs. Like, I've learned that I'd like to go back to school. Although I'm afraid of some of the challenges, like essays, that I'll face. So I'd sooner prepare myself by writing more often. I suppose it doesn't matter what I write about, as long as I am.
Now I know a little about a lot of things, like a 'jack of all trades' right? It's one of my greatest strengths and weaknesses. It means that I can get along with almost anyone. I can interject into practically any conversation and have some idea of what they're talking about or at least of someone I know who would. Then I just listen, pay attention, and try my damnedest to make mental notes that I'll actually remember. If it's from a person I respect then it's easy to remember because I made a special note of where the information came from. I can generally remember what I read, just not necessarily where I read it. I do have trouble regurgitating vocabulary and all those big words that I can figure out what they mean, but not tell you what they actually mean. Like irony.
So yes, the actual weakness is the amount of information. I'm not specialized. Therefore to choose just one job to do, or just one area of academia, has always been difficult. I can do many things fairly well. These things might have nothing in common with each other. Except me. Which there in lies the problem of writing cover letters and zeroing in on those complex qualities that any given employer is searching for. Well, that, and I don't market myself well. Others, sure. Myself, not so much.
So dear friends. For the sake of me not running out of anything to talk about, would anyone like to ask a question? Or simply give me a topic that I might ramble (which I might very well do) on about?
For the most part, I've deserted my Steady Promotions blog as it felt like a lot of pressure. Where here I might still want to write and not really have to worry about being well researched to the point that I don't post because the info is too much of a bother to find. Am I lazy at being a perfectionist or am I a perfectionist at being lazy? You tell me. Ask me something or give me a topic please. I will go thru them as best as I can. Else I might post some ridiculous crap and make you seriously reconsider my sanity. Or worse yours, for being my friend.
Thank you! |

| I'm so frustrated! |
[Mar. 25th, 2009|01:03 pm] |
I don't mean to complain, I just need to get this out.
I'm just sick of trying to fill in the job applications for all these places. They ask for a complete full time and part time record of every place I've worked. As a freelancer that's so impossible. For someone who's moved so much in the past few years it's so hard. I've had jobs that last 4 hours to 8 days, 3 weeks to 10 months, 2 years to 6 years, wtf do they want? I've had full time and part time jobs. Part time jobs that I'd have just to make extra money or just for something else ta do. Ya know, seasonal or to fill in some time or learn a new trade.
I'm a freelancer. "Can we contact this employer?" Yes, but it's ME! So I'm just so sick of filling them out over, and over, and over again. I'm already pessimistic about even getting contacted about the position that when I stare at the screen filling it in just gets harder and harder.
And I have to keep going thru this! It was annoying in Virginia, then I could hardly do it in NYC, then NJ is almost a moot point, and now I'm FINALLY going to be in a place for a long time (4 years) and the job market has to be so bad that I can't even get a call back for a customer service position...which I have 10+ years experience doing! Am I OVER QUALIFIED for the crappy jobs and UNDER QUALIFIED for a good job? Where does that leave me??
I just get so sick, so depressed that I have to do anything else just to keep from crying. Then I feel even crappier because that 'anything else' won't help me get a job. I hate feeling useless. It's like the worst feeling in the world to me.
I need to make more friends and network down here. That's got to be the best and only other thing I can do right now. I will not be a drain on pappy. I will work harder and not let these little things get in my way. I'm not going to continue to feel this way forever. I'm moving on right now. Time to get dressed. I'm going out to the post office and wherever else I can.
Thanks for hearing my complains. I'll do my best. ^_^ |

| Oh, the other music video I PA'd for. |
[Mar. 17th, 2009|01:39 pm] |
This is Amazing Baby. They were amazing, but the shoot sucked. 'Sucked' isn't really even a powerful enough word to describe how horrible it was. Truly. Made for an okay music video tho, I suppose. |

|
| Yay! It's out! |
[Mar. 17th, 2009|12:52 pm] |
This is one of the music videos I PA'ed on! It's finally out! These guys were SO NICE! It'd be great to see them again, but alas, I don't see Mississippi on their tour list. hah.
They're the Alternate Routes (pronounced "roots"). Man, I'm so glad I don't PA anymore... |

| I don't understand... |
[Mar. 5th, 2009|10:39 pm] |
Okay, so first off y'all know I'm not into politics and all that garble. So if this sounds like I'm a complete idiot, then know that I most likely am. Well, not a general-idiot, just an politics-idiot. I've just been rolling this idea around in my head for the past couple of days and I need to ask others what's up.
It's not the stimulus package exactly, it's more about the banks, the loans, our money and the general economy. Okay, so the economy sucks so we should buy stuff to stimulate the economy to make it better. It just feels like a band-aid or something. Cause isn't all this spending what got America into trouble to begin with? Ya know, with the loans and the credit cards? And the banks are failing. I think it's a good thing that the crappy banks get bought by the good banks and keep running that way. Also hopefully keeping their staff, just retraining them so that ppl don't have to lose all those jobs. Anyway, I digress (I think, right?).
But I'm thinking that the banks were failing because of more than just the bad loans. I mean, I'm thinking, "where do the banks get the money to make the loans to begin with?" From what they taught me when I opened my account at the bank (when I was 13 so perhaps this is a huge reason why I don't get this) was that the interest that I earned for my savings account and CDs, was because the bank was using the money I put in to loan to other ppl. Therefore, the interest on the loan was much higher than what I was getting from my savings account so that the bank could make a profit in between borrowing money from me, and letting this other person (or whomever) have the loan.
All right, so what I'm trying to say, in my usual convoluted way, is that the banks were failing not just because of bad loans, but because American's weren't saving more, which in turn means that we were spending too much, and then ppl were led to take out loans that they could never pay back. So, I want to understand that we should spend more to stimulate the economy, but I just feel like we should be saving more and spending less overall.
Call me out if this is ridiculous, I just don't understand why we need to spend so much on shit that we don't need. Granted, I've been broke most of my life so I've always been a sort of penny-pincher. Not cheap, just a penny-pincher. I lost count of all the sacrifices I've made over the past 10 or so years. So maybe it's just me, but shouldn't we be saving more in the banks that aren't in too much trouble (= one that you trust) and not out spending?
America's a land of consumers, I understand that, but I don't see how that's a good idea. Can't we be consumers but keep with moderation? If we don't have the money for something, then why do we need it? If it's not necessary clothing, food, and shelter, then wouldn't we want to be careful where our money is going and ask ourselves if there isn't another way?
I'm not trying to be a hypocrite, cause heaven knows I've screwed up with money from time to time and I happen to like Rock Band as recreation, I'm just asking about moderation. I would love to save...once I get a job, but then the goal also is to be debt-free. *sigh* I can't help the economy or myself, but I'm still asking.
EDIT: So after getting Taras' take on it, we could do this moderation for the future, just not right now. Using Japan as an example (which I guessed right on the first try; I'm so proud of myself) of a major world economy with a ppl who save the most yet who've been in constant economic recession for-uh-ever now, not we can't just save. Again I stressed moderation, so that we can save better but still spend on the luxuries of life. So that we land somewhere between the Japanese and American ways of dealing with money. But then that won't all happen until we hit our absolute lowest and then bounce back...
So now the question remains, can America learn from its mistakes? Can we, as a ppl, get our shit together and do what we can to help ourselves while helping the economy get back on its feet, or do we plan to just sit back and rely on our government, banks, credit card and insurance companies to do it for us?
LJ Friends, how do you feel on the subject? |

| working two jobs sucks |
[Jan. 21st, 2009|11:55 am] |
I've been working 2 jobs for about a week now. It's as exciting as the first time I did it years ago. Having more than one job is just so awesome. All this money coming in and there's no time for much of anything else during the day. I hope you hear the sarcasm, cause it's very THICK. I work part time as a barista at the local Borders Books, and there's this great diner I work as a hostess/cashier full time. I like the diner job better for many reasons, but I still can't wait to quit both of them next week. *phew*
Yeah, I was looking for a job for Dec-Jan but they both came right here at the end. Isn't that just my luck. Well, at least I got jobs cause that's more than some of my friends. But I really lowered my standards (if you couldn't tell) knowing that I'd only be there for a few months/weeks, and they won't even show up on my resume.
Taras left yesterday for Biloxi but I haven't really felt him gone yet. I've been working or trying to sleep in or just doing internet stuffs so I don't really miss him yet. I'll just be keeping busy until I leave too. I even came up with a cool name for it: Steph's East Coast Trip to Miss-allofyou-issippi. My agenda keeps changing slightly and I'm waiting to hear back from some ppl to make sure everything's good for the dates that I need to stay with them, but I can say it'll still take me about 11 days of traveling.
The basic plan is to spend some time in PA, then Roch, Buffalo, then more PA, then the weekend in VA, then down thru the Carolinas, then into Atlanta, and end up in Biloxi/Gulfport by the 12th. I still need to visit with Deeje, Apple and Trinity. And also spend a day in NYC cause I won't be visiting there for a long time too. There's just a handful of ppl to see, but I'd like to have lunch with Marie again.
My resume looks like crap. NYC messed it all up with the film & tv industry. I put it on there, but it's so ugly now. I need ppl to look at it and fix it. So if anybody wants to help me there let me know and I'll send it along...as I remember...Although, I figure my best bet is to just take each job posting and tailor it. So much work...
Keep running into ppl who know ppl, so one of Taras' friends' moms works out of Biloxi, so there's a lead. There's more so I'll do my best to get a good job and I can be pappy's sugar momma instead of the other way around. ^_^ heheheehe
For those who don't know MAGFest went well. As in: IT WAS AWESOME! Yeah, we're working so hard on next year's already. Our communication tripled (at least) already! We've got a staff mailing list, a promotions mailing list, a google calendar, we're having department meetings on irc...it's nutz I tell ya! MAGFest is becoming ORGANIZED! Wow! It could only get better. ^_^
Turns out I'll be working for ScrewAttack here too. It's the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention over July 4th weekend in Dallas, TX. It's only 6 months away and they need help. I offered and Craig jumped at me. He liked what I did with the guests this year at MAGFest so that's what I'm doing, along with giving tips from my previous experience with conventions. There's a lot that needs to be done.
So yeah, that's what's going on now, and over the next month, then hopefully a job when I get to Mississippi. Whee! |

| Totally Stolen from Merrell |
[Nov. 19th, 2008|10:59 pm] |
According to cookingwithcum.com
"Semen is not only nutritious, but it also has a wonderful texture and amazing cooking properties. Like fine wine and cheeses, the taste of semen is complex and dynamic. Semen is inexpensive to produce and is commonly available in many, if not most, homes and restaurants. Despite all of these positive qualities, semen remains neglected as a food. This book hopes to change that. Once you overcome any initial hesitation, you will be surprised to learn how wonderful semen is in the kitchen. Semen is an exciting ingredient that can give every dish you make an interesting twist. If you are a passionate cook and are not afraid to experiment with new ingredients - you will love this cook book!"
I Twittered about this, and within 30 seconds I get a message back from Bobby Bokista, "Oh dear God!"
Told Taras about this and he was disgusted and humored at the same time: "So I should jackoff onto a plate so you can dip your muffin in it and go YUM???" "Can it be a blueberry muffin?"
What fun self-publishing can be!! ^_^ I kinda want it to see what it's really about...how ridiculous. |

| Awesome Astoria Apartment |
[Nov. 19th, 2008|10:55 pm] |
Helping out my buddy Kenn. He's getting screwed by the guy who just moved in when I moved out. What a douchebag. Please let me know if you know anyone interested. Any friend of a friend of a friend...
Details: One of our roommates will be returning to his home state to be with his family. It was very unexpected. He would like to move out on the 15th or 19th of December, however if we can find someone that can move in before then that is ok too. The room is $800 a month with an $800 deposit. The utilities and cable are split four ways.
We are looking for someone long term and not for someone short term! If you are interested in seeing the apartment then send us an email. Please tell us a little bit about yourself, and the best way to contact you.
THE APARTMENT: The Apartment is a renovated Dentist Office, so it is a quite unique place. It’s a four bedroom apartment, however we only use three of the bedrooms as bedrooms. The fourth room we use for storage. Which is great, because storage is hard to come by in NYC.
We have a living room, dinning room, kitchen, and bathroom. The bathroom was completely remodeled by our landlord right before I moved in. The kitchen was partially remodeled. A new stove and refrigerator was put in as well.
We have wireless internet and cable. The utilities and cable/internet are split four ways.
We have plenty of plates, bowls, glasses, pots, pans, etc. We also have a microwave, blender, and a coffee machine…. So there is no need to bring any of those items.
THE ROOM: The room is 12.5’ x 9.5’ and has four large windows. The room also has a walk-in closet which is 5.9’ x 3.1’ and 9’ high. So, with the closet and storage room there is a lot of space to store things. The room will not be furnished.
If someone would like to take the storage room instead of the bedroom we are offering then we can easily change the room we are offering into the storage room.
Again, the room is $800 with an $800 deposit.
US: There are two males and one female that will be living here. One guy works in film/tv, the other is an opera singer, and the girl is a nanny. The two males are in their early 30s and the girl is in her late 20s.
We are all CLEAN, respectful, and easy to get along with. We are all very laidback and easy going.
We all eat meat, however we have had vegetarian roommates in the past.
THE TYPE OF PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR: We are looking for someone that is CLEAN, and doesn’t mind doing their part to keep the apartment clean. We are not neat freaks, but we like to keep the common areas nice. We are also looking for someone that is respectful, friendly, and fun. We are NOT looking for a smoker. If you are the type of person that is up for getting a drink every once in awhile that would be great too! We are looking for someone long tern… NOT short term. You should also have a job, we are looking for someone who is responsible and that we can count to pay the bills on time.
THE AREA: Astoria is a great neighborhood. It has quite a variety of restaurants and plenty of shops. There are three grocery stores in the area that are near by. There is a laundramat, dry cleaner, and shoe repair shop across the street from the apartment. There is a nice café that is two blocks away that has wireless internet. On 30th Avenue there are plenty of restaurants, delis, 99 Cent stores, a video store, etc. There is a decent night-life scene in Astoria as well. Some places worth mentioning are The Beer Gardens, Rapture, The Irish Rover, Café Bar, Grand Café, and Flo. There is a big NYC Sports Club two avenues away. Target and the Queens Center Mall is six subways stops away. The Museum of Moving Images and huge movie theatre are close. At the Astoria Blvd stop there is a Staples.
To get here one would take the N or W to either the 30th Avenue Stop or the Astoria Blvd Stop. One can also take the R train to the Steinway Stop.
It only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reach Times Square from Astoria. The first stop in the city is 59th and Lex which is an Express Stop… So, you can get uptown or down to Union Square fairly quick.
There are two bus lines that run into the city as well. One goes across Steinway and crosses over the 59th Street Bridge ending at 2nd Ave. The other crosses the Triborough Bridge and then crosses 125th Street and ends just south of Columbia University on Broadway. The BQE is not far, and there is a bus that stops one small block away that can take you to Laguardia Airport.
CONTACTING US: If you are interested feel free to contact us. We will be showing the apartment. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and provide a way that you can be reached. |

you are violet #EE82EE | Your dominant hues are red and blue. You're confident and like showing people new ideas. You play well with others and can be very influential if you want to be.
Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan.
Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

"The Common Sense Test says that I'm weird
What does it mean?
You are both dumb and smart, meaning you were fooling around and putting random answers."
BUT I DIDN'T! I SWEAR! >.<

Well, things have progressed interestingly in the past couple of days. It's both good AND bad.
While I was gone for a long weekend to PA, a huge bill came in da mail. Oh crap...well...
I'm gunna move to NJ by the end of this month. Oh wait, I'll be down in DC helping take care of Melly & Bobby and the newborn, Sakura, for the second half of the month. hmmmmmmmm...what ta do...guess I have to move as much as I can before the 14th?!
Well, fuck.
So I'm getting my Mom's help. Wait, when? Oh, the 10-13th. So much for AUSA...dammit.
Good: I'll be in NJ and paying less. I should be able to pay my bills fine. Should. I'll be living with Taras and Frank for an extra month.
Bad: Missing AUSA. Missing ppl in NYC, as I probably won't get to say good-bye properly. It's in a week and a half.
The worst part really is, is that I wouldn't be having this bill issue if a big paycheck had come in a LOT sooner. By a LOT I mean that I'd already had it. It was for work back at the end of July. It's about 2 months and haven't received it yet. I talked to the Project Manager and he hasn't been paid either. I've already emailed the guy with them, as I can only imagine that he's swamped with work and just didn't get around to doing the paperwork. -_- Well, that's me giving him the benefit of the doubt I suppose.
I just doubt that it'll get here before I REALLY need it. So I might have to borrow from my parents. shit, I hate that. Maybe I can hope to get some work next week. Wait, I need to pack too. shit shit shit. Time to get to work when I don't have any!!
Man I'm in a bad mood. I'm gunna go brush my teeth first. That'll make me feel better and clean. |

So yes, it looks like I'm moving a lot actually.
By Dec 1, I'll be living in NJ with Taras and our friend Frank in Frank's house. He was living with Taras in the apartment as his roommate until he found a house to buy. They turned out to be such good roommates that Taras is moving in with Frank to da house. I'll just be moving in too.
No big deal. It's not like I've got stuff anymore or anything.
Then By Feb 1 (or so), I'll be moving to Biloxi, Mississippi to live with Taras. He got orders and will be teaching at Keesler AFB. It's right there on the coast. Yay beach. Yay hurricanes. Yay. He did not volunteer for this assignment btw.
Before ppl ask, no, I didn't even blink when he told me about his orders. Why? 1) I love the man 2) I was going to live with him in NJ anyway, so whatever 3) I'm not really doing anything else...honestly, he's my most stable piece in my life
And don't ask about marriage. We're not there yet, but it's been talked about. Kinda hard to go to a couple of them, as he's been the best man 3 TIMES now, without talking about it at least once. I mean sure, it might be nice, but we don't need to be married to be happy. Although, with military life it might be easier at some point...meh.
Off that subject!
I've been PAing (Production Assistant) for awhile now. I've worked on TV shows, a theatrical film, commercials (print and video), a music video, and some HBO stuff. I worked a day at a film festival. I've made some really cool friends up in NYC. I'm going to miss them.
Then I'm going to miss the whole East Coast.
However, we will be living within a day's drive of: Taras' parents in Texas ~9 hrs OneUps in Arkansas ~11 hrs Pensacola, Florida ~2 hrs New Orleans, Louisiana ~2 hrs Robert in Tennessee ~10 hrs
Well, maybe we'll fly or I'll learn how to 'drive' a plane...heh.
Been playing a bunch of video games again in my free time. It's kinda nice to have free time. I had almost forgotten and now I'm getting used to it. Been watching tons of anime and old Southpark episodes too. Man, I'm spoiled.
Um, yeah. Guess I'll have a party at Frank's or something before I move. I'll try to visit ppl as much as I can before I'm lost to the mostly southern midwest...or wherever it's called... |
